One pair 4mm needles for bands

GAUGE: 18sts/25rows to 4" on keyplate 2 dot

NOTE: All bands are done by hand. 2 strands of Snowflake using 4mm needles creates a very tight tension in garter st, therefore, it's much easier to knit these by hand.

This pattern was knit using the ISM/Bond Knitting Machine with Super 3 aran weight cotton & Sirdar Snowflake chunky weight polyester. For more info on the ISM/Bond Knitting Machine and these yarns, please click on the links below.

TERMS:
alternate = alt
carriage on left = COL
carriage on right = COR
forward working position = FWP
holding position = HP
open edge = OE
row counter = RC
stitch = st
stitches = sts
waste yarn = WY

BACK: Using OE cast on and WY, cast on 84(92,102) sts. Work a few rows with WY. Set RC to 0. Join main yarn and work 54(54,60) rows.

SHAPE ARMHOLES: * At beginning of next 2 rows cast off 0(0,3) sts. Decrease 1 st at each end of next and following 7(7,8) alt rows.* Work without further shaping until row 106(106,112). COR.

SHAPE BACK NECK: Pull all needles left of 0 and 8(8,9) right of 0 to HP. Work 1 row. Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next and following alt row. COR.
RC 110(110,116). Pull remaining needles to HP and cut yarn. Slip center 16(16,18) sts onto a thread. Return remaining left side sts to FWP. Place COL and reset RC to 106(106,112). Work 1 row, cast off 3 sts at beginning of next and following alt row. Slip remaining sts onto holders.

RIGHT FRONT: Using OE cast on and WY, cast on 40(44,49) sts. Work a few rows WY. Set RC to 0 and join main yarn work 54(54,60) rows. COR.

SHAPE ARMHOLE: Cast off 0(0,3)sts at beginning of next row. Work one row. COR. Decrease 1 st at beginning of next and following 7(7,8) rows. Work without further shaping to row 91(91,95). COL.

NECK SHAPING: Cast off 3(3,4)sts at beginninning of next row. Work 1 row. COL.

ALL SIZES: Cast off 3 sts at beginning of next row. Work 1 row. Cast off 2 sts at beginning of next row. Work 1 row. Decrease 1 st at beginning of next and following 3 alt rows. Work to row 110(110,116). Slip sts onto a holder.

LEFT FRONT: Work as given for right front reversing all shapings. This works perfectly if you start the piece with COL instead of COR. Both pieces will then be exactly the same.

SLEEVES: Using OE cast on and WY cast on 46 sts. Work a few rows WY. COR. Join main yarn and increase 1 st each side every 4 rows to 78sts, then every 6 rows to 84 sts. Work without further shaping to 82(88,94) rows. Decrease as for back from *to* . Cast off.

"FUR EDGINGS"
All edgings are done on 4mm using 2 strands snowflake.

SLEEVE EDGE: Pick up sts above WY onto needle. Unravel WY. Join snowflake and knit decreasing 12 sts evenly across first row. Knit 7 rows more. Cast off.

BACK EDGE: Pick up sts as for sleeve. Join snowflake and knit decreasing 20(22,26) sts evenly across first row. Knit 7 rows. Cast off.

FRONT EDGES: Pick up sts. as for sleeve. Join snowflake and knitdecreasing 8(10,12) sts evenly across first row. Knit 7 rows. Cast off.

JOIN SHOULDERS: With right sides together knit shoulders together by taking one st from each needle and knitting them together. Repeat this across row, casting off the sts as you go.

COLLAR: Using snowflake and 4mm pick up 20 sts along right front neck. 27(27,29) sts along back, evenly decreasing by 3 sts, across sts on holder, and 20 sts down left front neck. Work in garter st for 3.5". Cast off.

FRONT BANDS:
Right side: With snowflake pick up 5 sts along lower edge. 45(45,48)sts along front, the last st being picked up in the base of the collar. Knit 3 rows. Cast off.
Left side: Pick up 45(45,48)sts along front, the first st being picked up at the base of the collar and 5 sts along lower band. Knit 3 rows. Cast off.

"POCKET" EDGE: This trim is entirely optional as it is a false pocket. I feel that it's necessary for the look of the garment. It only takes a moment to knit them and you can just pin them in place to see if you want them or not. Using snowflake and 4mm cast on 12 sts and work 5 rows knit. Cast off. Attach to the front pieces approx. 4" up from the bottom edge and centered across the width.

FINISHING: Sew up side and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves.

ZIPPER: The zipper I used was 40cm. If your gauge was correct this should be fine for you. The zipper should be just slightly shorter that the front band. Pin into place so that you will not be able to see the zipper between the front bands when it's done up. Sew into place using regular sewing thread folding the excess at top of zipper underneath.
